I am sorting according to "Most recent" as per the Articles-> Options -> Shared -> Article orderPublished date, created date, modified date - articles could be sorted by any of these so for your site I'm not sure which you're using.
No blog tools, only native Joomla capabilitiesAre you using any "Blog" tool or just a category blog menu item view (or similar)? Perhaps the menu item defines how the articles (previews) of the blog posts are sorted e.g. most recent first by (logically) the created date (which is not necessarily the same as published date).
